Une championne olympique par hasard…

Alors qu’elle est étudiante en France, Margaret Abbott s’inscrit à un tournoi international de golf à Compiègne, situé à 80 km de la capitale. La jeune Américaine remporte la compétition sans savoir qu’elle participait en fait à une épreuve olympique, organisée dans le cadre des Jeux de Paris, en 1900 ! 

Les requins privés de Jeux Olympiques

Lors des JO de Sydney (2000), certains athlètes n’avaient qu’une peur : être attaqués par des requins qui peuplent les eaux australiennes ! Afin d’éloigner les squales trop curieux, des plongeurs équipés d’un système émettant des impulsions électriques ont accompagné les sportifs pendant l’épreuve du triathlon.

Si la pêche aux médailles était une discipline olympique, c’est Michael Phelps qui monterait sur la première marche du podium ! Le nageur américain a remporté pas moins de 28 médailles (23 d’or, 3 d’argent et 2 de bronze). Une belle collection qu’il a accumulée au cours de 4 Olympiades : les JO d’Athènes (2004), de Pékin (2008), de Londres (2012) et de Rio (2016).

While she was a student in France, Margaret Abbott registered for an international golf tournament in Compiègne, located 80 km from the capital. The young American won the competition without knowing that she was in fact participating in an Olympic event, organized as part of the Paris Games, in 1900! 

Sharks deprived of the Olympic Games

During the Sydney Olympics (2000), some athletes had only one fear: being attacked by sharks which inhabit Australian waters! In order to ward off curious sharks, divers equipped with a system emitting electrical pulses accompanied the athletes during the triathlon event.
